Limoges

When the Ligue du Limousin de Handball set about building a single strong club for the region in 2005, it did so by merging two existing sides, CAPO Limoges and ASPTT Limoges, under one banner. The arrangement did not hold for long: CAPO left in 2007, ASPTT a year later, and what remained carried on alone, first as Limoges Hand 87 and later, from 2020, as Limoges Handball.

The climb through the divisions took a decade. The Nationale 1 title in 2015 lifted the club out of the amateur ranks, and a runner-up finish in ProLigue in 2020 sent it into the Starligue for the first time, into a division of the game the club from Haute-Vienne had never previously reached.

That top-flight status has since carried the club into European competition, where the 2024–25 campaign brought a run to the quarter-finals of the EHF European League before THW Kiel ended it, and a Coupe de France run that stopped one round short, at the hands of Montpellier.

Home games are played in front of 4,000 at the Palais des Sports de Beaublanc, in navy blue and red, and the club is known locally as Les Limougeauds.

Among the current squad, Jure Dolenec stands out as the player supporters are most likely to name first.
