Macau U20

An under-20 squad exists to feed a senior team, and Macau's version answers to the Football Association of Macau, which has run the sport in the territory since 1939. The youth side itself is dated to 1985, though its record only starts a year later: a 5–1 defeat to Hong Kong on 1 August 1986, the first international it has on file.

Qualification campaigns since have mostly gone the same way. The team's one real high point came in the 2006 AFC Youth Championship qualifiers, when it beat Guam 2–0 and finished second in its group despite a 9–1 hammering by China. In the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualification, Macau lost all three group games, against Australia, Bahrain and Kyrgyzstan, without scoring a point, and for the 2027 edition it has been slotted into the Development Phase.

Centralised hosting has become part of the story too: Macau has increasingly travelled to play its qualifiers, including a stretch in Saudi Arabia. When it does host, the Centro Desportivo Olímpico – Estádio in Taipa, with room for 16,272, is the ground.

Recent squads have included Leong Ka Fat, Ho Hou In, Ng Ka Heng and Leong Chon Kit. In four decades of qualifying, Macau U20 has never reached the finals of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup or its earlier incarnations.
