MMTS Kwidzyn

Kwidzyn's biggest fixture is a Pomeranian one: the derby against Wybrzeże Gdańsk.

The club runs as the Miejsko-Młodzieżowe Towarzystwo Sportowe. Founded in 1998, sponsorship has changed its name over the years, to Energa Borys MMTS and later Energa Bank PBS MMTS. It achieved silver in the Superliga in 2009/10, bronze three times either side of it, and a run to the EHF Challenge Cup final in that same 2009/10 campaign, lost to Sporting CP. The Polish Cup has been kinder in smaller doses — third place seven times, most recently in 2023, never higher.

Robert Orzechowski is the name attached to the club's best years on the court, a forward who passed 1,000 league goals before he retired in 2023, the kind of figure a small handball town measures its own history against. Maciej Mroczkowski went the other way round the same career, captaining the side for years before moving onto the bench as head coach.

2021 nearly ended all of it. Financial trouble put liquidation on the table, and for a while it was not clear MMTS would see out the season, let alone stay in the Superliga. It did, and continued playing out of the Kompleks Widowiskowo-Sportowy in Kwidzyn, a ground that holds 1,504 for a club whose fixture list still turns on one date a year: the Derby Pomorza against Wybrzeże Gdańsk.
