Navalcarnero

Fran Garrido had already worn the shirts of Getafe and Real Madrid Castilla before he took charge of Navalcarnero's bench for the 2018–19 season, one of three campaigns in which the club dropped out of Segunda División B, finishing 19th that year. The relegation stung, but it did not stop what came next: in 2019–20 the side won Group VII of Tercera División, after four runners-up finishes across the previous decade and a half, and stepped up into the newly formed Segunda División RFEF.

What followed made more noise than any league placing. In the 2020–21 Copa del Rey, still a fourth-tier club, Navalcarnero knocked out CD Badajoz, then beat UD Las Palmas 1–0 at home, and kept going by putting three past SD Eibar in the Round of 32. Granada CF ended the run in the last sixteen, 6–0, but by then the little ground had already seen three La Liga-calibre scalps in a single winter. Álex González, long-serving captain of that era, scored in the match that sealed the promotion behind that run before later moving on to Rayo Vallecano B.

The 1,500-seat Estadio Municipal Mariano González has stayed the club's home throughout, and the nickname El Barquito — a nod to the town rather than the badge — has followed the club through all four divisions it has occupied since 1953. Local matches carry their own weight: fixtures against Getafe CF B are billed as a derbi when the sides share a group, with Fuenlabrada and Móstoles URJC filling out the regional rivalries.

The 2023–24 cup run stopped at the first hurdle, beaten by AD Alcorcón, but the competition keeps handing Navalcarnero heavyweight draws — Getafe CF await in the second round of the 2025–26 edition, a fresh chance to repeat the trick that made the club's name beyond Madrid's lower tiers.
