Old Wesley

Club · Ireland · All Ireland League

Andrew Porter has played for Ireland, Leinster and the British & Irish Lions, and Old Wesley counts him among their own. So is Philip Orr, who won the same set of caps and Lions honours and later served the club as a trustee. Eric Miller, another Lion, is on the list too. The club has produced a steady line of internationals, and its mini teams feed the Leinster academy.

Old Wesley began in 1891 as a club for past pupils of Wesley College, Dublin. Its climb since then has been made in stages, one division at a time. Division 2 came in 1989. Division 3 followed in 2009, when the club beat Corinthians 30–12 in the final. Division 2A was won in 2015, and Division 1B in 2025/26, which earned promotion to Division 1A. The top-tier Division 1 title has never come to Donnybrook.

Their nearest rivals are Bective Rangers, whose ground sits so close in Dublin 4 that the fixture is known as the Donnybrook Derby. It is played with enormous intensity. St Mary's College and Clontarf are the other local sides the club measures itself against.

The ground was rebuilt in 2008 and now holds 6,000, with a 2,500-seat covered grandstand. Underage and junior sides train and play at Ballycorus. The youth teams have their own record: they won the U-20 Premiership 2 in 2019 and again in 2023/24, and reached the Purcell Cup Final that same season.

The Leinster Senior Cup has come to the club twice, in 1909 and in 1985.
