Cork Con

Cork Con measure themselves against Dolphin first: the Cork Derby, or Leeside Derby, has run across the city for generations, and only after that comes the reckoning with Shannon and Garryowen. Cork Constitution stopped printing not long after Irish independence, but the staff who had founded the club in 1892 kept the title alive.

Peter O'Mahony came through it before captaining Ireland, and Ronan O'Gara played for Con before Munster ever called him up.

On honours the record is heavy rather than dramatic: seven All-Ireland League Division 1A titles, the most recent in 2023–24, sit alongside 30 Munster Senior Cups, a competition Con have treated at times as close to a formality. The Bateman Cup run of seven straight wins between 2012 and 2019 says more about a settled, dominant side than any single season could.

Temple Hill, in Ballintemple, holds around 5,000, modest against what a club with this list of alumni might expect. What Con have not managed is to turn that steady production of Ireland internationals into European silverware of their own; the biggest nights for their best players still happen in Munster or Ireland shirts, elsewhere.
