Ballynahinch

Ballynahinch head into another season in the top flight. Between the domestic silverware and a squad that keeps feeding Ulster's academy, expectation at the club has shifted from hoping to compete to expecting to win something most years.

That habit took time to form. The club was put together at a meeting in the local Royal British Legion Hall in April 1954, entered the Junior League that same season, and spent decades working through the honours a small-town side is supposed to collect — Ulster Towns Cups and Ulster Junior Cups through the 1960s, 80s and 90s. The breakthrough came in 2008–09, when Ballynahinch beat Cork Constitution 17–6 to lift the AIB All-Ireland Cup.

Since then the Ulster Senior League and Ulster Senior Cup have gone Ballynahinch's way — eight league titles and seven cup wins between 2009 and 2026. Stuart McCloskey came through the club before establishing himself as an Ireland centre, and Andy Ward, once Ulster's captain and an Ireland international himself, was handed an honours cap by the club that shaped his own start in the game.

Fixtures against City of Armagh carry the weight of an Ulster derby in Division 1A, while the meetings with Banbridge, the County Down neighbours, keep their own edge lower down the leagues. Ballymacarn Park, bought outright by the club in 1970 for £6,500, has stayed the home ground through all of it.

Seven Ulster Senior Cups in seventeen years is the number that says where Ballynahinch stands now.
