Old Belvedere

Between 1940 and 1946, Old Belvedere won the Leinster Senior Cup seven years running, a record unbeaten run in the competition.

The run came from a club that was still young and closed. Former pupils of Belvedere College formed it in the 1918–19 season, but play stopped during the Irish War of Independence. It was reformed in April 1930 as a junior side for past pupils and reached senior status in 1937–38, only two seasons before the first of those cups. Membership stayed restricted to former pupils for 46 years and opened to all players in 1976.

The school link produced some of Irish rugby's best-known names. Ollie Campbell, who has the ground named after him, and Tony O'Reilly both toured with the British & Irish Lions, as did Jack Conan much later. Ken Daly, a coach and administrator, was inducted into the US Rugby Hall of Fame.

The league era brought its own marks. Old Belvedere won All-Ireland League Division 2 in 1993–94 and again in 2006–07, and in 2010–11 took Division 1A. The women's side won All-Ireland Division One three years running, in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Members call the club "Belvo" and the ground "The Lodge". It sits on Anglesea Road in Ballsbridge, holds 1,000 and hosts the Dublin derby against Clontarf in black and white hoops.
