Östersund IK

Östersund Arena holds 2,700 people. Founded in 1965 out of a merger between IK Boston and the ice hockey section of IFK Östersund, the club dropped the Boston name.

The following decade brought an early high point, with the Division III Södra Nordsvenska C title in 1965/66 pushing the team up to Division II, and in 1984/85 the senior side made it as far as the Elitserien playoffs. What followed was a long stretch without matching that level, complicated further in 2003, when the senior operation was hived off into a separate entity, Jämtland Hockey, while ÖIK concentrated on youth hockey. A 2006 merger with Brunflo IK brought the club back into senior competition under Jämtland Hockey's Division 1 spot, and full independence returned only in 2011.

The wait for a way back up ended on 29 April 2022, when Östersunds IK won the Hockeyettan qualification series for Hockeyallsvenskan in the final seconds, sealing promotion to the second tier for the first time in 27 years. The club marked its 60th anniversary in 2025.

Local identity runs through the fixture against Brunflo BI, played as the BIK-ÖIK derby, with a further rivalry against Hudiksvall giving the season its other fixed point. The supporters organise as the Wolfpack. What the club has never done, in sixty years, is win the Swedish Championship or the Swedish Ice Hockey Cup.
