Persija Jakarta

Persija have won the Indonesian league twice in the professional era. The first came in 2001, settled by a 3–2 win over PSM Makassar in the final at Gelora Bung Karno. The second took another 17 years, and arrived on the last day of the 2018 season, when a 2–1 win over Mitra Kukar was enough to take Liga 1.

The longer record sits further back. Before the leagues turned professional in 1994, Persija took nine Perserikatan titles, which remains the most any Indonesian club has won in that competition. It was founded in November 1928 in Batavia as Voetbalbond Indonesische Jacatra, and only became Persija in 1950, once Batavia had become Jakarta.

The colours changed later, and by decision rather than by drift. Red had been the home shirt for decades. In 1997 the governor of Jakarta, Sutiyoso, switched the primary colour to orange to line the club up with the tiger it is named for, Macan Kemayoran.

One trophy has stayed out of reach. Persija have never won the Piala Indonesia as a professional club — finalists in 2005, and beaten again in 2018–19 by PSM Makassar, who took the two-legged final 2–1 on aggregate.

Since 2022 the home ground has been the Jakarta International Stadium, which the club rents.
