Rylands

The FA Vase was contested at Wembley: 3–2 against Binfield in the 2020–21 final, with Elliott Nevitt taking the match with a hat-trick. Promotion into the Northern Premier League Premier Division followed a year later, in 2022, after the club had already taken the Northern Premier League Division One West title.

The club began in 1906 as a works team for the Rylands Brothers wire manufacturers, run out of the Rylands Recreation Club, and remains the oldest football club in Warrington. It spent much of the 2000s under other names — a 2008 merger produced Crossfields/Rylands, before the Rylands name returned in the early 2010s — and only settled on Warrington Rylands 1906 FC in 2020.

Investment in the ground on Gorsey Lane, now the Quickline Logistics Arena, came from Paul Stretford, who put money into improvements there in 2016 and 2018; the arena holds 2,069. Dean Furman, capped for South Africa, joined in 2022.

None of that carries the weight, locally, of the fixture with Warrington Town. The two clubs share a town of one football club too many, and their meeting is known as the Warrington Derby, or, to those who prefer the trade the town is built on, the El Wireco.
