Stefan Lainer wore Seekirchen's colours before Borussia Mönchengladbach or the Austria national team came calling, one name on a list of academy graduates that has made this Salzburg club a regular supplier to Red Bull Salzburg and Austria Salzburg. Robert and Andreas Ibertsberger both started in the same youth setup — Andreas went on to Freiburg and Hoffenheim, Robert to Sturm Graz and Tirol Innsbruck — and winger Heimo Pfeifenberger left for Werder Bremen and Rapid Vienna by way of the Austria squad.

The club formed in 1945 in Seekirchen am Wallersee, initially under the name Union Seekirchen; when the football section switched to SV Seekirchen is not precisely recorded, and the club's handball and table tennis sections may have kept the old name into the 1980s.

Its best season came in 2022, when it won the Regionalliga Salzburg, the only title of that rank in the club's history. It had already taken the 1. Landesliga Salzburg three times between 1997 and 2002. Home games are played at Sportzentrum Aug, in front of a capacity of 2,000, in the red and white the club has worn since its founding.

The two are easy to confuse: SV Seekirchen 1945 shares its home town with ASKÖ SC Seekirchen 1980, a club with a similar name that plays fistball, not football.
