Slovan Duslo Šaľa

Lukáš Szabó was still on the books at Šaľa when Slovakia's under-21 side called him into a squad in 2013. More often it is the shirt that gets noticed before the names inside it: light blue and white, worn by a side everyone in town calls Chemici.

The club traces back to Šaľská RTJ, a workers' physical education association founded in 1921, and it marked its hundredth year in 2021. The high point has been a single season in the Slovak Second League in 2011/12, earned by winning the third tier and lost again the following year with relegation straight back down.

There was one afternoon of real drama in the 2004–05 Slovak Cup, when Šaľa drew 1–1 with DAC Dunajská Streda's reserve side and then held their nerve through a penalty shootout, winning 4–3. The run ended in the next round, beaten 3–0 by MŠK Žilina. No major trophy has followed, in the league or the cup, and the club has stayed a fixture of regional football, its games against sides like FKM Nové Zámky and FK Močenok ordinary league business rather than anything with a name attached.

Home games are played in front of a stadium built to hold 8,000, though only 1,126 of those places are seated, on a ground that had to be rebuilt after bombing destroyed it in 1945. Šaľa go into the current season looking for a route back toward the second tier they last occupied more than a decade ago.
