Song Lam Nghệ An

In 2020, Song Lam Nghe An went through the worst season in its history.

The club traces back to 28 February 1979, when Nghe Tinh's provincial military command handed the team to the local people's committee under the name Song Lam. Nghe An and Ha Tinh were then a single province, Nghe Tinh, and the split in 1992 eventually gave the club its present name in 1994. Song Lam Nghe An FC was restored in 2009.

Yellow shirts have given the club its nickname, The Yellow Shirt Team, and its academy has long supplied the Vietnam national team, most notably Le Cong Vinh, who came through at Vinh and went on to become the country's all-time leading scorer. A second, more local derby is fought with Hong Linh Ha Tinh.

The trophy count runs to three league titles, three Vietnamese Cups, four Super Cups and a Dunhill Cup won in 1998.
