Tajikistan U20

Regional third place has become the ceiling for this side rather than an exception: Tajikistan's under-20 team took bronze at the CAFA U-20 Championship in 2023 and again in 2025, both times settling matters with Uzbekistan U20 in the third-place match. That fixture has turned into the closest thing this age group has to a rivalry, sharpened further whenever Kyrgyzstan U20 is drawn into the same group.

The team's continental record still runs deeper than its regional one. At the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, Tajikistan has reached the finals stage five times, and twice gone further than anyone expected: quarter-final defeats to Japan in 2016 and South Korea in 2018 remain the furthest this generation of players has taken the country at that level. Ten years earlier, in 2006, the same tournament brought nothing but a bottom-of-the-group finish without a point.

Home games are played in Dushanbe, where the side wears red, white and green in the same combination as the senior national team, a deliberate line of continuity that several of its own graduates have since walked: Dilshod Vasiev and Siyovush Asrorov both moved up from this squad into full international football, taking with them habits shaped under coaches like Akhiddin Turdiev, who took charge for the 2023 qualifying campaign.

Supporters know the side as the Crowns, a name that sits oddly against a trophy cabinet still waiting for a first regional title rather than a third-place finish.
