Tira

Football in Tira has rarely settled into one shape. By the mid-2000s the town had two clubs competing for the same support — Hapoel Tira, playing in Liga Artzit, and Maccabi Bnei Tira — and within a year both were gone. Hapoel folded in 2004, Maccabi followed in 2005, and out of that collapse F.C. Tira was formed the same year, absorbing what remained of Maccabi's squad.

That did not end the instability. The club itself folded in 2009 after failing to win promotion out of Liga Gimel, and it took until 2010, with Abet Titi and Haim Yirmiyahu overseeing the rebuild, for Tira to return. The reformed side won the Sharon division of Liga Gimel in its first season back, 2010–11, then climbed again in 2015–16, when Mohammad Samara's team beat Maccabi Ironi Eli Ashdod/Petah Tikva on penalties in the promotion play-off final to reach Liga Alef North, where the club competes now.

Shalom Edri carried much of that period on the pitch: two spells between 2017 and 2025 produced 136 appearances and 52 goals, more than anyone else associated with the club in its current form. Ravid Gazal, a retired Israel international, played there across the same years before returning as manager in 2021.

The derby is a newer story than the club itself. Tzeirey Tira, a community side founded around 2016, gave the town a fixture it had not had at senior level in more than thirty years; when the two met in the State Cup in 2021–22, M.S. Tira won 2-1.

The club plays in red and white and sits in Liga Alef, the third tier, trying to hold the ground its last promotion won it.
