Valasske Mezirici

Ice hockey came to Valašské Meziříčí through a local sports club rather than a dedicated section, and the founders registered it as SK Valašské Meziříčí on 12 December 1931. The name changed with the political weather that followed — Tatran under the state-run sports system of the 1950s, plain TJ Valašské Meziříčí from 1977 — before the club settled on HC Bobři Valašské Meziříčí in 2004, the Beavers tag it still carries.

The Zimní stadion got its artificial ice in 1977 and stayed open to the elements for a further quarter-century; a roof went up in 2003, and the covered rink brought promotion into the 2. Liga. The next step up followed in 2009/10, when the club topped the 2nd Czech Hockey League's East Group and won its way into the 1. Liga through the promotion playoffs.

The men's side has settled into that regional tier, but the women's team has been the club's sharper story of late: champions of the 1st Czech Women's Hockey League in 2024/25, they went up into the Extraliga.

Matches against HC Vsetín are billed as the Wallachian derby.

Of those who came through Valašské Meziříčí, Zdeněk Nachmilner is the one worth remembering: a goalkeeper here in the 1940s, he went on to play for Czechoslovakia.
