Bytom

The rink on Owidzka Street has shrunk with the club: after the 2021 rebuild, the arena known locally as "Stodoła" seats 1,500, half what it held when Polonia Bytom stood among Poland's best. Officially the Lodowisko im. Braci Nikodemowiczów, it has stayed the club's home through every relegation and every promotion back.

Polonia's ice hockey section split off from the wider Towarzystwo Sportowe Polonia Bytom in 1946, taking the parent club's blue and red — colours carried over from Pogoń Lwów. Between 1984 and 1991 the team won six Polish league titles and, alongside them, three Polish Cups, a run that fans still call the club's Golden Era. Marek Stebnicki played through those years, lifted the Golden Stick as the league's best player in 1989, went to the Calgary Olympics that year, and later returned to the club as its president.

What followed the Golden Era was harder to watch. Financial mismanagement forced Polonia out of the top league in 2001 and shut the club down for a season. Relegation came again in 1999, in 2009, in 2019, and each time the club worked its way back through the second-tier I-liga, winning promotion in 2007, 2013, and 2021. Sponsorship names have come and gone with the club's fortunes — Węglokoks Kraj Polonia Bytom among them — before it settled on TMH Polonia Bytom.

Across town, Szombierki Bytom remains the fixture that matters most, the Derby of Bytom, sharpened further by the rivalries with GKS Katowice and Zagłębie Sosnowiec in Upper Silesia. In April 2025, Polonia bought a wild card back into the Polska Hokej Liga for the 2025/2026 season — a return to the top flight the club has now made and lost several times since its best years ended.
