HandbaL Venlo was born on 20 January 1965 under the name Loreal, and HV Blerick was formed in 1970 by members who broke away from Athene '56.
That happened gradually. A cooperation called HC Groot Venlo started in 2020, the two clubs merged fully on 1 July 2023, and the combined side took the name Fortes Venlo a year later.
Under the HandbaL Venlo name the club won the Eredivisie Women in 2021–22, added the Dutch Cup in 2022–23, and completed the set with the Dutch Super Cup in 2023.
