Viimsi/alexela

The club in Haabneeme grew out of the school sports scene in Viimsi, a parish just outside Tallinn, and by the time it was registered in September 1997 it already had a squad strong enough to win the Meistriliiga in its debut season. That title, taken in the club's first year of existence, has not been repeated since — a marker the club has spent nearly three decades chasing rather than a foundation it built on.

The rest of the honours board tells a quieter story: bronze in the Meistriliiga in 2011 and 2013, runner-up finishes in the Estonian Cup the same years. Those seasons put Viimsi close enough to smell another league title without landing one, as Põlva Serviti and HC Kehra took turns at the top through the 2010s and into the 2020s. HC Kehra in particular has become the club's sharpest rival, the fixture where league position tends to matter less than pride.

The club has changed shirts with its sponsors more than once, playing at various points as Viimsi HC and HC Viimsi/Tööriistamarket before settling into its current identity as HC Viimsi/Alexela. What has stayed constant is the home ground, the Viimsi Kooli Spordikeskus, a school sports centre that seats 456 with room for a couple of hundred more standing — intimate enough that a vocal end can still be heard over the squeak of trainers on the court.

Goalkeeper Marten Vihvelin has become the player supporters point to first, a regular for the Estonian national team as well as the club, alongside back-court players Jasper Arnover and Georg-Gustav Kont who have followed the same path into the national setup. With the league now shaped by Serviti and Kehra at the summit, Viimsi's task is the one it has faced for much of the last decade: turning strong individual seasons into another run at the title it has held only once.
