Viking TIF

Viking TIF spent last season one win short of a return to the top flight: they finished second in the 1. Division in 2024/25, then lost the qualification playoff against Bækkelaget, so the men's team stays in the second tier for now. It has been there before. In 2022/23 they won the division outright and went up to the REMA 1000-ligaen for the first time in the club's history, only to finish bottom of the table in their debut top-flight season and drop straight back down.

The handball department itself was set up on 15 February 1946, inside a Bergen sports club that already dated back to the previous century, with Aksel Nilson as its first chairman. Its strongest spell came a few years later, between 1950 and 1960, when the junior men won a national title and players such as Aslaug Smith and Ronald Carlsen were capped for Norway. The senior men have never taken the league itself, but they lifted the NM Cup four times.

Bergen's other handball side, Bergen Håndball, is the club Viking measure themselves against, and the two share the Haukelandshallen for what locals call the byderby. Stine Skogrand, an Olympic gold medallist with the Norwegian national team, is the name Viking point to when the conversation turns to players who came through the club.

Home games are played at Vikinghallen, though a new hall planned for the club is set to hold around 900 spectators.
