Vimenor

Piélagos football once had two teams for one town, and for a few seasons the fixture that mattered most in the valley was Vimenor against Carrimón, the club from nearby Renedo. That rivalry, the Derbi de Piélagos, ran through the late 1920s and into the 1930s and ended only when Carrimón folded. What replaced it was smaller in stakes but longer in life: meetings with CD Bezana and Cayón, treated locally as the closest thing left to a proper derby.

Vimenor itself grew out of a factory floor. Vidriera Mecánica del Norte, a glassworks in Vioño de Piélagos, put together a works team in 1928, and the acronym of its name gave the club its own. War broke that first side in 1936, and the club that carries the name today was rebuilt afterwards, dated formally to 1929. Two regional titles from that early era, in 1930–31 and 1949–50, mark the period before the interruption.

The club found its longer rhythm from 1986–87, when promotion to the old Tercera División opened a spell of more than thirty years at that level. There have been no titles to match since, but the closest Vimenor has come was recent: back-to-back runner-up finishes in Group III of the Tercera RFEF in 2021–22 and 2022–23, each one earning a place in the promotion playoffs for Segunda Federación, and each one falling short — the second time in a national final lost to CD Illescas in May 2023.

Home is Estadio La Vidriera, named for the factory that gave the club its start, holding some 1,600 people in Vioño de Piélagos.
