VVV Venlo go into this season in the Eerste Divisie. The club plays out of the Covebo Stadion – De Koel, which holds 8,000, in yellow shirts with a black stripe, black shorts and yellow socks.

A group of friends in Venlo founded the football association De Gouden Leeuw at the end of the 19th century; the side later played under the name Valuas before, on 7 February 1903, the club settled on Venlose Voetbal Vereniging — VVV, the name it still carries.

The only Cup the club has won came in 1959, a 4-1 final win over ADO Den Haag. That day belonged in part to Herman Teeuwen, a forward who went in goal after the VVV keeper was injured and saved a penalty to keep the trophy within reach. Jan Klaassens won that Cup before leaving for Feyenoord, where he made 200 appearances and was capped 57 times for the Netherlands. VVV have twice been champions of the Eerste Divisie, in 1992/93 and 2008/09; the second of those title-winning sides had Keisuke Honda in midfield.

Morice Graef remains the club's record scorer, with 117 goals in 266 games through the 1970s and 1980s, and Gé Nass built the other kind of record, staying at the club from 1931 to 1962 and never playing for anyone else.
