The founding, in 1871, belonged to the Reverend Francis John Eld, who put out the newly formed Worcester Rugby Football Club against the Royal Artillery that November.
That same year the club went into administration owing more than £30 million, £16.1 million of it in government loans, and was suspended from the Premiership and dropped into the Championship. The Atlas Consortium's bid to take over collapsed in early 2023, and with it went the Worcester Warriors name itself, retired in favour of a planned rebrand to Sixways Rugby. The club won the Championship again in 2026, a fourth such title after 2004, 2011 and 2015, but by then the Premiership had closed itself to promotion and the win carried no route back up. Junction 6 Limited, a consortium led by Chris Holland, bought the business in April 2024, kept more than sixty jobs, and set about trying to bring professional rugby back to the ground where Eld's side first turned out in 1871.
