The pitch at the Ato Boldon Stadium sits inside a running track that has a habit of filling with water, but the drainage seems to lose the battle against the rain. What makes the place less like a standard football venue is the concrete circle and the path around it, which the stadium shares rather than keeping to itself.

The ground was built for the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship and has hosted the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup since, a tournament that used the same field for the group stage, the quarter-final and both semi-finals. That is a demanding schedule for a surface that has been described as prone to waterlogging. The stadium was originally known as the Couva Stadium before the government renamed it for the sprinter, though the local clubs, including Central FC and Club Sando FC, continue to play their home fixtures there. The 8,050 seats are not enough to fill the arena when Trinidad and Tobago host a match that matters, and the record for a major international fixture sits at 5,002 for a World Cup Qualifier against Honduras.
