The ground in the Loma Alta district of Santa Ana carried a plain name, Estadio Santaneco — also recorded as Estadio Municipal de Santa Ana. That changed on 15 May 1977, when the city renamed it for Óscar Alberto Quiteño, a goalkeeper who died on the pitch. The stadium has carried his name ever since.
The build itself was quick: work started in December 1962 and the gates opened barely two months later, on 3 February 1963. The pitch has stayed natural throughout, laid with a New Zealand Bermuda grass.
Ownership sits with Santa Ana's municipal administration, which holds the stadium and hands it to CD FAS. It remains, above all, a name kept in circulation by the man it was given to.
