New York Cosmos edged Richmond Kickers 3-2 in a Group Stage fixture of USL League One on Saturday evening. The hosts took all three points despite a late penalty that brought the score level before their own spot-kick sealed the win.
A. Spengler opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute, but the visitors responded quickly with L. Jawneh's strike just six minutes later. Z. Vazquez restored the lead for Cosmos in the thirty-second period, and the home side held their nerve through a second half that grew increasingly physical.
