Cican Stanković

Cican Stanković was born in Bijeljina, in what is now Bosnia and Herzegovina, and built his career entirely in Austria. He joined SV Horn's academy in 2007, worked his way into the first team by 2010 and made 68 appearances for the club before Grödig paid around €70,000 for him in the summer of 2013.

It was at Grödig that Stanković first stood out, being named the Austrian Bundesliga's Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2014–15 season. That form took him to Red Bull Salzburg in July 2015 for a fee in excess of €1 million. He spent six years there and hardly missed a trophy: six Austrian Bundesliga titles in succession, from 2015–16 through to 2020–21, and five Austrian Cups alongside them. He was also named to the Bundesliga's Team of the Year in 2018–19.

In May 2021 he moved abroad for the first time, signing a four-year contract with AEK Athens for a fee of €1.1 million. The 2022–23 season brought a domestic double with AEK, the Greek Super League and the Greek Cup, in which he played every one of the club's eight matches and kept six clean sheets. He was released by AEK in the summer of 2024.

Stanković has represented Austria at senior level since making his debut against Latvia in September 2019, adding to three caps he had already won with the under-21s. His senior international appearances have so far numbered four.
