About the player
Maksym Khlan scored in the 2025–26 Polish Cup final, in which Górnik Zabrze beat Raków Częstochowa 2–0. It gave the club its first Polish Cup since 1988. Khlan had joined Górnik on a free transfer on 13 August 2025, on a two-year contract. In May 2026 he was named Ekstraklasa Player of the Month. He has scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the club.
His route to Zabrze began in Ukraine. He started in Dynamo Kyiv's youth system and moved to Karpaty Lviv in 2015. His senior debut came on 27 June 2020, in the only match he played for the first team. Zorya Luhansk signed him on a free transfer in January 2021, and he made eight appearances for them.
Poland was where his career took off. Lechia Gdańsk signed him as a free agent in September 2023, and he played 54 matches for them and scored 14 goals. Lechia won the I Liga in 2023–24. Khlan was I Liga Player of the Month in both February and March 2024, and the Polish Union of Footballers put him in its I Liga Team of the Season.
His 10 caps for the under-23 side brought three goals. In 2024 that team won the Toulon Tournament, and Khlan was named the tournament's best player. He also took part in the Paris Olympics that summer.
