About the player
He won the Belarusian Cup twice with Shakhter, beating BATE Borisov in the 2017–2018 final and Gomel the following season.
A free transfer took him to Russia in January 2020, where he spent time with Arsenal Tula and its reserve side before moving on to Orenburg in September 2021. There he featured through the club's swings between the Premier League and the First League, and scored the winning goal against Spartak Moscow in March 2023.
He signed for Baltika on a free transfer in February 2024 and played across both divisions for the Kaliningrad club before his contract was ended by mutual consent in July 2026. On the same day he returned to Belarus, joining BATE Borisov on a free transfer.
Internationally, Kovalev has earned 29 caps for Belarus since 2017. His first goal for the national side came in September 2018, an injury-time strike in a 5–0 win over San Marino in the UEFA Nations League. He scored again in November 2024, equalising in the 70th minute of a 1–1 draw with Bulgaria in the same competition.
