The club grew out of that island community in 1921 and gained official recognition in 1933, one of the oldest football institutions in Senegal.
That form was real. Gorée dominated the old French West Africa Cup through the 1940s and 1950s, then carried that habit of winning into the independent Senegalese league, taking the title in 1978, 1981 and 1984. After a long gap, they won it again in 2016 and added the Super Cup the same year. The Senegal Cup came their way four times, the last in 1996.
Continentally, Gorée twice reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, in 1979 and 1985, and made it to the final of the Coupe de l'UFOA in 2017.
