Gute

Three names in six decades tell most of the story: a Gotland sports society formed in 1904, renamed IF Gute in 1908, then Wisby IF in 1911, before the two lines came back together in 1968 as Visby IF Gute. The club settled on FC Gute only in November 2007.

That scene has always run through Visby, and Gute remains the largest club to come out of it. Gutavallen holds 4,550, with 550 of those under cover.

Peo Enström came through the Gute ranks before moving on to IFK Göteborg and AIK, and Alexander Gerndt did the same on his way to a Sweden call-up as a striker.

Cup football has given Gute its rare shots at the mainland's bigger clubs, with ties against Allsvenskan sides such as Hammarby IF and Västerås SK in the Svenska Cupen. Locally, IFK Visby supplies the rivalry, even if no one has bothered to give it a name.

What the club has not done is win anything of note nationally.
