Kansanshi Dynamos

Solwezi Independence Stadium seats 5,000, and in North-Western Province that is room enough for a football club that answers to a mining company. Kansanshi Dynamos, the Mabanga Boys, wear blue and white stripes there. First Quantum Mining Ltd owns them.

The club began in 2009 as Solwezi Dynamos. Before the year was out it had been renamed Kansanshi Dynamos, tying it to Kansanshi Mining PLC under the company's corporate social responsibility work.

Promotion to the Zambia Super League came in 2019, ten years after the start. Since then the seasons have mostly been spent in mid-table or in relegation fights. The club went down once and returned for 2024/25. No major trophy has followed: the Super League, the Zambia Cup and the Charity Shield have all gone elsewhere, and the ABSA Cup, which they have also entered, has never been theirs.

The fixture that belongs most to the town is the Solwezi derby against FQMO Mining Operations, a match between two local sides in the same mining country.
