Lancaster Inferno enter the USL W League as recent arrivals rather than newcomers to winning: the club joined the competition in 2024 as an expansion side after eight seasons in United Women's Soccer, and the step up came with a Coach of the Year award for Stephanie Cleaves and a Player of the Year season from Ryelle Shuey, named to the league's First Team and Mid-Atlantic Division Player of the Year.
The club began life in 2008 under PA Classics, playing in the WPSL before Francisco Cleaves bought it in 2014. Under his charge, and after the move into UWS in 2016, Lancaster Inferno reached the 2018 national championship match, losing to Houston Aces 1-0 in extra time. Cleaves took the conference's Coach of the Year honour in both 2018 and 2019, before Stephanie Cleaves later matched that recognition at the new level of the USL W League.
The Inferno play home matches at Penn Medicine Park on North Prince Street, a ground better known locally under its old name, Clipper Magazine Stadium. In 2019, the club registered as a non-profit, a status that has run alongside a youth academy and a U23 side feeding players toward the first team; Sydney Blomquist and Emily Dolan both moved on from Lancaster to play professionally in Europe.
Black, orange and white remain the club's colours, and in 2025 they gave the badge a face, unveiling a mascot named Fern.
