Northern Virginia FC

Northern Virginia FC has spent more time changing its name than defending one. What is now known simply as NOVA FC began as the Northern Virginia Royals, was rebuilt in 2015 as Evergreen FC in partnership with D.C. United's under-23 side, turned into the Evergreen Hammers in Loudoun County a year later, and only settled on its current identity in 2021, when the men's side entered USL League Two. Tim Schweitzer has owned the club through most of that churn, and was named Executive of the Year twice, in 2000 and 2011, a decade apart under two different names.

The women's game at the club runs on its own, older thread. Between 1998 and 2012, the Northern Virginia Majestics played in the USL W-League, reaching the playoffs four times without ever taking the title, and were inducted into the USL Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008 as a "10+ Club" for staying in the league a decade.

The club plays in black and gold at Segra Field in Leesburg, a 5,000-seat ground it moved into for the 2024 season after years at Evergreen Sportsplex. None of that was in place in 1998, when the club first took the field as the Northern Virginia Royals in the USISL D-3 Pro League, the starting point everything since has been built, renamed and rebuilt on top of.
