Mississippi Brilla

The Laredo Heat are Mississippi Brilla's main rival, the two sides being placed together in the Mid South Division. Brilla have won that division twice, in 2015 and 2021, and in 2017 they took the Southern Conference as well.

The club began as a ministry. Brilla Soccer Ministries, a Christian non-profit, was set up in 1996 after a mission trip to Costa Rica. Its name is the Spanish word for "shine", taken from Matthew 5:16. The team followed in 2006, and in 2007 it entered the Premier Development League (PDL), now USL League Two. That made it the first soccer franchise in Mississippi since the Jackson Chargers folded in 1999.

The team has always been based in Clinton, but it has not had a fixed home. It has played at Mississippi College, at Millsaps College, in Ridgeland and at Clinton High School's Arrow Field. For 2026 it moved to Robinson-Hale Stadium. Its supporters gather as the Blue Battalion.

The first three Southeast Division titles came in a row, in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The deepest run came in 2017, at the PDL National Semifinals. Brilla beat SIMA Aguilas 4-3, then got past FC Miami City on penalties, before losing to the Charlotte Eagles. The year before, the club had recorded its first win in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, against CD Motagua.

Among the players who moved on from Clinton is Debola Ogunseye, who went on to play in the Turkish First League.
