South Bend already had a soccer club of its own when Northern Indiana arrived. South Bend Lions FC started in 2019, changed its name to Michiana Fútbol Club, and folded in 2024. Northern Indiana FC was founded in 2023 as a separate entity.

In 2025 it joined USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American pyramid, where it plays as a pre-professional side.

The 2026 season was the first in which the club reached the playoffs. It finished as runner-up in the Valley Division and went into the Round of 32, where Steel City FC won 1-0. The match was decided by a single goal, and the season ended there.

Fort Wayne FC is the club's regional rival, and the local press calls the fixture the "South Bend Rivalry".

Thiago Pinto is head coach and Pablo Rodriguez is club president. The name most often attached to the squad is Eno Nto, a forward who plays for Notre Dame.
