SF Glens SC

The Glens grew out of San Francisco's Irish-American community, and the front of their shirt still says so: the away kit is cream, the colour of a pint of Guinness, which is also the club's shirt partner. The home shirt is green with white hoops. Founded in 1961 as a grassroots side, the club spent its first decades in the city's amateur leagues, the San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL).

Their first title in the SFSFL Premier Division came in 1984, the first by an Irish-American side in that league. A second followed in 1997. Twice the men reached the National Amateur Cup final, in 1979 and 1990, and lost both: to Atlanta Datagraphic, then to St. Petersburg Kickers.

The bigger change came later. The men's team made its first national playoff appearance in USL League Two in 2022 and reached the Western Conference Semifinals. They got there again in 2023, so the first run was not a one-off. In the same 2022 season the U19 Academy became the first San Francisco team to reach the MLS NEXT Cup final, where it lost to the New England Revolution.

The academy is what the club is now best known for. Four of its players were taken in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, a first for any San Francisco club. Sam Junqua went eighth overall to Houston Dynamo and later played for Real Salt Lake. Roy Boateng went 16th to the New York Red Bulls.

Home is the Skyline College Soccer Field in San Bruno, a ground of about 1,000 seats. The Glens have also used Boxer Stadium and Kezar Stadium, and have announced plans for a soccer-specific stadium on Treasure Island. The nearest rival is San Francisco City FC, and the two meet in the San Francisco Derby.
