«Quicksilver»
Almaden's senior side is the late product of a youth league.
The name comes from the Almaden Quicksilver Mine. Quicksilver is the club's nickname, and in some youth settings the teams are called Mercury, the same metal under its other name. A mining district gave its name to the valley, and the valley gave it to a soccer club.
The Almaden Valley Youth Soccer League, also known as Almaden Soccer, started in 1967. In 2007 it set up a competitive programme under the name Almaden FC.
The senior step came much later. On 19 December 2023 the United Soccer League (USL) announced Almaden as an expansion team in USL League Two, and the club played its first season in that competition in 2024. The senior team has no honours to its name yet. Home games are split between two San Jose grounds: the football stadium at Pioneer High School and the turf soccer field at Evergreen Valley College.
The youth teams have won more so far. In 2024 the Girls U13 side took the championship at the Club America Cup, the same year the senior team made its debut.
The club's story starts where the league did, in 1967, with children's teams in Almaden Valley.
