Terry Lippens started the club in January 2024 under a different name: NSB Current FC, for New Smyrna Beach Current Football Club. It was a local project on Florida's Volusia County coast, and it had no league place to go with it.

The step that changed its direction came in 2025, when Lippens's side merged with the Southeast Volusia Soccer Club. The merged club took the name Shark Coast FC. The home shirt carries a shark-teeth pattern in navy and white, with sky blue and red as accents.

The merger put the club in USL League Two for 2026, its first season at that level. Nate Monsanto, who had previously coached Daytona SC, joined as technical director.

Home games are played at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex, where the lighted soccer fields sit beside the football stadium that New Smyrna Beach High School uses. The stadium has grandstands on both sides.

Shark Coast plays in the League Two Southeast Division, alongside The Villages, Inter Gainesville and Sporting JAX. It has no trophy to its name yet.
