Tucson

FC Tucson began play in 2011, a season after its founding, in the Premier Development League (PDL), the amateur summer league that later became USL League Two. Its home is Kino North Stadium, inside the Kino Sports Complex, which holds 3,200.

The club was recognised quickly. It won the league's Rookie Franchise of the Year award in 2012. In 2013 it reached the Third Round of the US Open Cup, and on the way became the first PDL club to beat two professional sides in consecutive matches. The Mountain Division title followed in 2014 and was repeated in each of the next three seasons. In 2014 the league also named Tucson its Organization of the Year.

Those years overlapped with a rivalry against Albuquerque Sol FC, billed as the Southwestern Showdown, with the Golden Rattler Trophy at stake. Tucson took it in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The contest ended when Albuquerque Sol FC ceased operations, so the trophy never had another holder.

Players moved on from here to the professional game. Aaron Long went to the New York Red Bulls, and Donny Toia and Ricardo Velazco to Real Salt Lake.

Ownership changed several times. Phoenix Rising FC held the club from 2017 to 2021, then Benevolent Sports Tucson, LLC took over. Late in 2022 the club was sold back to a group led by co-founder Jon Pearlman. After that season it dropped out of USL League One of its own choosing and returned to USL League Two.
