West Texas

West Texas FC spent 2026 in USL League Two, having left the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) after winning its Lone Star Conference in 2024 and again in 2025. The move ends a run in the NPSL that started when the club sat out the 2022 season.

That gap year shaped what followed. In December 2022 local real estate investors Jason and Melina Cannon bought the franchise from the previous owners, who included Miles Prentice and Bob Richmond. In 2023 the team took the name West Texas FC and started again under head coach Victor Domingues. The conference title in 2019 came under an earlier name, but the two most recent ones belong to the Cannons' era.

The club began in 2009 as the West Texas Sockers in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), and it carried a run of names through the years that followed: Odessa/Midland Sockers, Midland-Odessa FC, Midland-Odessa Sockers FC. Under the Midland-Odessa FC name it reached the PDL national semi-finals in 2016. A year later it reached the NPSL national final and lost to the Elm City Express. Ricardo Palomino, a striker, played that final in goal, because the side went into it with no goalkeeper.

The nearest rivalry is with the Lubbock Matadors. The fixture is called the "West Texas Derby", and the two-legged version is branded "El Dustico". Home games are played at Astound Broadband Stadium, which holds 15,000 and was called Grande Communications Stadium before.

The national title has not come. The club has been runner-up once, in 2017. In the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup it has never got past the second round, which it reached in 2015 and 2018.
