Carlos Joel Salcedo Hernández

Carlos Salcedo's time at Monterrey barely began before it stopped: he ruptured his cruciate ligament in his very first training session with the club, on 19 January 2025, only days after arriving from FC Juárez.

The Guadalajara-born defender came through the youth ranks at C.D. Guadalajara and then Tigres UANL before finishing his development at Real Salt Lake, where he turned professional in 2013. A return to Guadalajara in 2015 led to loan spells at Fiorentina and Eintracht Frankfurt, and the German club made the move permanent in 2018, a year in which Salcedo won the DFB-Pokal. He joined Tigres UANL the following January, and that spell brought the biggest honours of his career: the Liga MX Clausura in 2019 and the CONCACAF Champions League in 2020.

A move to Toronto FC as a Designated Player in 2022 was cut short when his contract was terminated after just a few months. Spells at FC Juárez and Cruz Azul followed before he returned to Juárez and then signed for Monterrey.

Salcedo has been a regular fixture for Mexico, earning 47 caps between 2015 and 2021 and scoring once, at the 2016 Olympics against Fiji. He was part of Mexico's squads at the 2015 Copa América, the 2017 Confederations Cup and the 2018 World Cup, and won back-to-back CONCACAF Gold Cups in 2019 and 2021, being named to the Best XI of the 2019 edition.
