About the player
Helton Leite has worn goalkeeper gloves at both ends of the football map, from a Série B debut in Brazil to spells in Portugal, Turkey and Spain before returning home. Born in Belo Horizonte, he began at J. Malucelli Futebol before a run through Boa Esporte, Ipatinga and Criciúma, where he won the Campeonato Catarinense. At Botafogo he became a first-choice figure between 2014 and 2018, helping the club win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B and the Taça Guanabara in 2015, with a loan spell at São Caetano along the way.
His move to Portugal proved decisive for his career. At Boavista he was named the Portuguese league's Best Goalkeeper for January and February of 2020, form that earned him a switch to Benfica later that year. He stayed in Lisbon until 2023, when he moved on a permanent transfer to Antalyaspor in Turkey. From there he crossed to Spain, joining Deportivo La Coruña in August 2024 and keeping a regular place in the Segunda División.
Fortaleza paid a release fee to bring him back to Brazilian football in August 2025, and he featured in both the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa Libertadores before his move to Vila Nova. In the 2026 season he has made seven appearances for the club in Série B and kept a clean sheet in every one of them.
