Cássio

Cássio Ortega's career traces the well-worn path from Brazil's smaller state leagues into the professional game. Born in Oeiras, in the interior of Piauí, he started out with two clubs from his home state, Atlântico-PI and Carcará, before catching on with Tombense, where he would spend the bulk of his career.

At Tombense he stayed on the books for several years, a period interrupted by two loan spells in the same year, first to Botafogo-SP and then to Salgueiro, as the club shipped him out to gain minutes elsewhere before bringing him back into the fold. It was during that stretch, in 2021, that he also had a spell at Chapecoense, wearing the shirt as a winger operating off the flank rather than through the middle.

He later returned to Tombense before moving on again in January 2025, this time to AA Oeirense, a club from his native Piauí.

Ortega's game has always been built around wide, direct play rather than raw numbers or headline transfers — there are no reported fees attached to any of his moves, and he has not been capped internationally. His is the story of a player who has made his way through the middle and lower tiers of Brazilian football, club by club, rather than one defined by a single breakthrough moment.
