About the player
Sakhalou Niakaté followed his older brother Sikou into professional football, though the two have taken separate paths through the French pyramid. Born in Poissy, the right-back came through the youth ranks at FC Mantois and AC Boulogne-Billancourt before settling at Mantes FC, the club that shaped him until 2023.
That summer he signed for Valenciennes on a free transfer, starting out with the reserve side, Valenciennes B, where he scored five goals. His senior debut came in October 2024, in the French National league and in the Coupe de France, and over that season he added three goals in the top team's colours across nineteen appearances.
Niakaté can play at right-back or through the middle as a centre-back, a versatility that has followed him through each move. In July 2026 he left Valenciennes on another free transfer, this time for Grenoble Foot 38, joining what the club calls its Groupe Pro 2 in Ligue 2. He has made one appearance since arriving.
Nothing in his path so far has come through a transfer fee: from Mantes to Valenciennes and on to Grenoble, each move has been free.
