Bern

The rink opened in October 1967 as the Eisstadion Allmend and was covered two years later, ahead of the world championship it was built to host. A renovation between 2007 and 2009, costing around 100 million francs, rebuilt it again for the 2009 IIHF World Championship, and it was there in 2008 that Bern hosted the New York Rangers in a friendly marking a century of Swiss ice hockey.

The club itself traces back to November 1930, when an ice hockey section formed inside Bern Sports Club and took the ice for the first time on 1 January 1931. Black has stayed the dominant colour ever since, worn by a side known to its own crowd as the Bären. Sixteen national titles followed over the decades, the earliest in 1959 and the most recent in 2019, with three Swiss Cups added in 1965, 2015 and 2021 — the last of those under Guy Boucher , who had already delivered the championship in 2016.

Sven Leuenberger's number 16 hangs retired from the rafters.
