Langnau Tigers

Langnau im Emmental's hockey team skated in yellow and answered to "Buuregiele" — Farmer Yellows, a nod to the dairy country around it. That changed in 1999, when the professional side was spun off into its own company and the club's longtime sponsor, the cheesemaker Tiger Käse, handed it a new coat: orange and black, and the name Tigers.

The club itself dates to January 1946, when it was registered as Schlittschuh-Club Langnau. It has not won the title since, though it came close three times either side of that season, finishing runner-up in the national league finals in 1970, 1977 and 1978.

Relegation has shaped the club almost as much as that single title. The Tigers have won the second-tier National League B four times, and two of those — in 1998 and 2015 — were promotion-clinching campaigns back to the top flight. Home games are played at the Emmental Versicherung Arena, formerly the Ilfishalle, in front of a mixed seated-and-standing crowd.

Martin Gerber left Langnau for the NHL, played goal for Anaheim, Carolina and Ottawa, and came back to have his number 26 retired by the club.
