Bournemouth spent last season back among the Premier League's established names, a place that would have sounded implausible to anyone who watched the club claw out of League Two under Eddie Howe, the manager who played for the side between 1984 and 1993 before returning to take it into the top flight for the first time in its history.

The name on the shirt has moved before the club itself did. Founded in 1899 as Boscombe F.C. in the district that gave it its start, the club became Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1923 and only settled on AFC Bournemouth in 1971 — the "AFC" added for alphabetical placement rather than as shorthand for anything. That same year the red-and-black stripes arrived, borrowed in look from AC Milan, and they have stayed close to the modern kit ever since; the 2024/25 shirt added a thin gold pinstripe as a nod back to the 2014/15 design.

The ground has changed its name more often than its location. Dean Court has carried the Vitality Stadium name commercially since July 2015, and it holds 12,357 — a small enough capacity that the 2014-15 Championship title, which sent the club up to the Premier League, felt like a stadium-sized story playing out on a small stage.

Steve Fletcher never left long enough to stop counting: 726 appearances across two spells between 1992 and 2013, still the club record. Dominic Solanke came through the academy and went the other way entirely, scoring 77 goals in 216 games before his move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024.

Southampton sits across the fixture list as the closest thing to a fixed rival, though the sharper edge of any south-coast derby has traditionally belonged to Portsmouth and Southampton themselves rather than to Bournemouth.

726 appearances, one name, one club.
