Mats Zuccarello grew up around the club before the NHL ever knew his name. The ice hockey side traces to 1922, but it was 1935 when the sport itself split off as its own department, and the club ran simply as Frisk until 1992. It became Asker Hockey after a merger with Holmen, then in 1994 took the name Frisk Tigers — a nod to a much older 1969 merger with Oslo's IK Tigrene that is also where the "Tigers" nickname came from. Only in 2010 did it return to being Frisk Asker.
That 1969 date matters for another reason: it is also when Askerhallen, the rink now known as Varner Arena, opened.
Four Norwegian titles run through the club's history, in 1975, 1979, 2002 and 2019, each one doubling as a cup win the same year. Petter Kristiansen still holds the club's appearance record.
